Casa Libera, Corso Garibaldi, Montone
Entered via a 16th-century portico, lobby and internal courtyard, Casa Libera is an imposing structure in a long row of terrace-style houses in Corso Garibaldi, just 40 metres from Montone's centrepiece, Piazza Fortebraccio.
Built during the 1700s on 14th-century foundations, its name derives from the engraved inscription, 'LIBERA', which appears on the lintel over the street door.
With two apartments on the third and fourth floors - Appartamento di Sopra and Appartamento di Sotto - Casa Libera had been abandoned for 40 years and in a sad state of disrepair until it was completely restored by the Montagnini family between late 2004 and mid 2006.
Total carrying capacity of Casa Libera is eight guests: five in Appartamento di Sopra, thre in Apparatamento di Sotto.
Owned by Montone geometra, Paolo Montagnini and his sisters, Stefania and Mariangela, Casa Libera is managed day-to-day by our English-speaking agent, who lives nearby in Montone.
